With NFL teams cutting their rosters for the 2022 season, former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman was asked which player he most regretted cutting.

Rather than hide from the question, Spielman admitted that the team made a big mistake with kicker Daniel Carlson. After drafting him in the fifth round, the Vikings cut Carlson after he missed three kicks in one game.

The team then chose to sign veteran kicker Dan Bailey. Carlson, meanwhile, has become one of the best kickers in the league – a fact that Spielman knows all too well.

“He’s had a great career since we cut him, and he will continue to have a great career and may well go down as one of the best kickers in NFL history,” Spielman said. “I’m sorry.”

Carlson has become one of the most automatic kickers in the league since coming out of the Vikings.
